Bronx Green provides an academically rigorous environment in which students use critical thinking skills to apply content area knowledge to hands-on learning experiences. This happens regularly in the classroom, outside in the school garden and in the community on field trips. Using these experiences to stimulate our students’ multiple intelligences and encourage independent thinking, BGMS prepares its students for the demands of higher education. Throughout the year, students frequently reflect on the processes they employ in their work which requires students to articulate the ways they learn best and draw on their strengths. All students produce and publicly present a comprehensive portfolio at the end of each year which showcases these learnings and their interdisciplinary project work. In effect, students at Bronx Green Bronx Middle School become agents in their own learning, which is an important tool to have when entering high school, college, and the job market.
